How often do you recommend changing check valves on this model?
Gene K.
from Illinois
November 06, 2017
Answer
Hi Gene. Check valves should typically be replaced anytime you replace your sump pump or every 5-7 years.

How long does a check valve generally last?
Kevin
from Illinois
September 25, 2015
Answer
Check valves will generally last as long as your pump, so whenever you change out your pump, it's a good idea to change out the check valve as well. All in all, you should get a good 5-7 years minimum on your pump and check valve.
+
Reading through one of the previous Q&As, you wrote that the check valve is generally installed about 1/2 - 2/3 up the vertical section of the discharge line (assuming 5'-10' vertical section). Why so high? I've seen a few installations where the check valve is right near the base of the line. Don't know which way is better.

Thank you for your interest in Sump Pumps Direct. While either installation is feasible and will work, my suggestion will reduce stress on the pump when starting due the the extra weight of the water sitting on top of that check valve when it's located at the pump discharge port. In addition, it makes for an easier access point for any servicing that may be needed on your system.

Without the rubber boots, approx. 5-3/4"L
The widest part measures 3-5/8"

My Zoller pump has a threaded female connector on the body. What am I expected to put between the pump body and the bottom clamp of this check valve?
BN

Answer
Typical installations will include the discharge PVC Sch40 pipe screwed into the pump discharge port and extending approximately 2-3 feet above the sump basin cover. At this point, you could attach the check valve and then complete your discharge configuration. This method would allow for an easier access point for you to service your pump.

what does the check valve do for a sump pump and do I need one if Im buying a sump pump?
Van
from California

Answer
You definitely want to install a check valve along with your sump pump. The check valve will keep most of the water left in your discharge pipe from returning and emptying back into your sump basin once your pump shuts off, thereby preventing any rapid re-cycling or continuous cycling of your pump.

is the zoeller 1.5 slip on check valve a full 1.5 inch or 1.25 and 1.5 inch

Answer
The Zoeller model 30-0180 check valve actually has an inlet and outlet diameter to 1 3/8" but will slip and clamp onto a 1 1/2" diameter PVC discharge pipe.

Where on the line is the best location for the check valve, close to the pump is better?

Half way between the bottom of the pit to where it exits the home.

How important is having a check valve and how often should they be replaced? We bought a house in 04 and we have had the same check valve since we moved in. Don't know how old it is.
Jon Nickol
from Ohio
January 06, 2011
Answer
A check valve is extremely important any time water is being lifted vertically. It prevents water from flowing back into the sump pit.

I would suggest listening to the valve when the sump pump is running. If you hear water flowing back down after the pump has cycled, it would be best to replace.

A faulty check valve causes your sump pump to work harder because it keeps pumping a portion of the same water.

To make things simple, if you're replacing your sump pump, replace your check valve too, or at least keep a spare on hand.
