i have a shallow well with a pump and bladder tank. the motor on the pump is almost shot and I wanted to know if it is just as simple to switch to a tankless system with its features or should I move up to a 3/4 hp pump tank stainless steel system for my home and sprinkler system. I plan to just tie into my exiting 1 1/4 inch plastic well.
Answer
Unfortunately, it's not that easy. While one 1/2HP or 3/4HP pump may provide "X" GPM & PSI and a certain total head lift, another 1/2HP or 3/4HP pump may provide a higher or lower GPM & PSI at the same head lift. In other words, all pumps are not created equal. The only way to be sure that you are matching your current pump specs is to look up the pump model# to see what that pump can do. Once you have that information, you can start searching other pump specifications and pump curves to fine the right pump, whether it's a match or one that will provide you with a bit higher flow & pressure.
That said, you can either do this research yourself, or you can provide me with the pump model# and I'll be happy to see what I can find out for you.
Now, if you do not have any of this information, I will need the following in order to assist you further.
Depth of your well
Standing Water Level
Well Recovery Rate or Pumping Water Level
GPM & PSI Requirements
Well Casing Diameter
Total pumping distance including any elevation variance
Number of Sprinkler Heads (if zoned, per zone) And Their Individual GPM &
PSI Requirements
Total Distance from The Pump to The Furthest Sprinkler and Any Elevation Variance
