Does this pump need to be primed originally, or will it lose its prime without a check valve or foot valve?
Duane W.

Video Response Available
Answer
This pump does need to primed upon installation and start-up. Without the proper foot or check valve installed on the suction side of this pump, it WILL lose prime. This and other information regarding the pump installation can be found in this Pump Manual. Read our How to Prime a Well Pump guide or watch the video below for more information.

hi jim just a quick follow up on my question.I see in your other answers this pump needs 20 to 25 psi coming in to this pump with my tank under ground I dont see how I could have enough pressure for this pump.Could you please explain this better

Answer
If you are using this Bur-Cam model 506532SS Dual App Pump as a booster pump, you need to have between 20 & 25 PSI on the suction side of the pump. IF you are installing it as a shallow well pump, it will handle up to a maximum 25 foot suction lift. This does NOT have to be a well, it could be a lake, pond or cistern. Two applications, two different installation methods.

was wondering if this can be hooked to city water to increase gpm and pressure, I am on top of a hill in an old small town and was going to try to find something I didn't need a separate tank for.

Answer
This would be a possibility, HOWEVER, you do need to insure that incoming pressure to the pump is between 20 & 25 PSI. No more and no less. You also need to insure that you are not trying to boost pressure to a large 2-3 bath home with high water needs. This pump does well in smaller 1 to 2 bath homes with low to average water needs.
The PUMP MANUAL should provide all the information you need.
If you have any other questions, please let me know.

Hi Jim, Looking at the 506532SS pump. What I am doing is taking the RO water from a 100 Gal holding tank and pressurizing the 32 gallon take to the house.
Pressure to be 30-50 PSI. There will be floats to protect the booster pump and the entire system. Is there a less expensive option for my needs? The feed will be at the bottom of the tank, and the pressure tank is within 4 feet.
Thanks
Jim

Thank you for your interest in Water Pumps Direct. Before I can answer your question, I would need to know the following:
Total head (suction & discharge lift)
Total pumping distance from the water source to the pump and from the pump to the furthest sprinkler head
Piping diameter on your suction and discharge (if already laid)
Total GPM & PSI requirements
Once you can provide this information, I'll be happy to assist you further.

Answer
As long as you followed all manufacturer's installation INSTRUCTIONS the pump should only be operating on a call for water. If this is NOT the case, I would suggest calling Bur-Cam tech support at 800-361-1820 for further assistance.

Answer
IF your pumping distance is minimal from the water tank to your home and water demand is low to average with 1 or 2 max baths, this pump would be a very good option for you. Just make sure that you follow the installation instructions to the "T".
If you have any other questions, please let me know.

Hi Jim,
I am following up to my original question to answer your question...
The pump will be placed in line with the storage tank on slab. Almost all the faucets/appliances are on the slab level of the home however there is one bathroom on the second floor so I would estimate our vertical lift on the second floor to be about 18' given that we have 9' ceilings. That said, all remaining faucets and appliances will have a much lower vertical lift.
The piping will be 1/2 inch copper.
Original answer:
Thank you for your interest in Water Pumps Direct. Before I can really make an educated suggestion on what pump you would need for your application, I would need to know the following specifications and requirements:
What is your vertical lift?
What size piping do you have in place?
Original Question:
I have a well system on my property but it is over 1000' away so I am running a line from the well to a 1500 gallon storage tank. I plan to use this pump on the outlet side of the storage tank to boost pressure and supply house. So the water will be coming in with limited pressure and no head. How many faucets/appliances will this product be able to handle being used simultaneously? I saw in one of your other responses you said 2 faucets/appliances and that surprised me because I assumed it would be more.

Hey Jim, Is it okay to run PEX water lines on the discharge side of the pump??
Thanks,
Andy B

December 15, 2014
Answer
Since PEX piping has a limited size of ¾ inch we do not recommend using it on the suction side of this or any other of our shallow well pumps however it can be used on the discharge side after the 3 to 5 ft of required 1 inch piping for our 506532SS model.

Hi Jim
if the kids leave a tap or shower dripping is this pump going to cycle on and off continuously. I beleive your info says no, but I don't understand why it wouldn't
David T
from Michigan
December 12, 2014
Answer
The Bur-Cam Dual App Pump model 506532SS works without a pressure tank and thus requires a fully pressurized system to operate properly. When the Floumac controller senses an open faucet or fixture the pump turns on. When that faucet or fixture is closed, the pump shuts off. Hence, if the pump senses ANY loss in pressure, the pump will continue to operate. It will not cycle, it will just run continuously until that faucet or fixture is closed completely. The same this will happen if there is any leak within your plumbing.
If you have additional questions, please let me know.

I have a modified sine wave inverter delivering electricity to the pump room. Will this affect the operation of pump?
Gayle M
from Colorado
June 15, 2014
Answer
Per Bur-Cam:
The electricity supplied to the pump need to match the specifications on the pump label.
For example, our motors are under 110V-120V AC 60Hz or under 220-240V AC 60Hz.
If the inverter provides twice the amps required to the pump to operate (the Amp rating is on the pump label) it will work.
The amps capacity needs to be twice the running Amps because at start, the motor pulls normally around twice the Amps for 1 to 2 seconds.
So, if the running Amp rating is 6.5A, you need to cover 13A so a 15A breaker is required or the inverter output needs to be at least 15A.

hi I have 2 bathrooms and we cant run the 2 things at once like shower and dishwasher or shower and washing machine without losing pressure we have a 12 hp shallow well pump and 20 pressure tank will this well pump work better

Answer
Thank you for your interest in Water Pumps Direct.
You might want to check your tank to see if it is holding pressure as this could one of be the causes of your problem. Another cause could be due to a build up of sediment or mineral deposits in your plumbing. This is pretty common in older homes and would require professional assistance. If you tank tests ok and your plumbing is in good condition, you might consider something like the Red Lion 12 GPM 1/2 HP Cast Iron Shallow Well Jet Pump, model RJS-50 or if you prefer to do away with your tank, the Bur-Cam 506532SS should also do the trick for you.

Hi Jim want to replace old house pressure system of tank & pump.. city water no well. will this product work. or what pump/tank system would u recommend.. think city pressure is about 40psi want to boost to 60-65psi.

Answer
The Bur-Cam 16GPM dual app pump, model 506532SS will only work with incoming pressure of 20-25 PSI, no more and no less. Providing you can meet these requirements and you don't plan on using more than 2 faucets/appliances at a time and your home does not have more than 2 levels this pump will do a very good job for you.

Does this pump cut on when water is truned on and cut off when water is cut off
Edwin Brannum
from Texas
January 11, 2014
Answer
The Bur-Cam model 506532SS will activate automatically when it senses an open faucet or fixture and will shut off when that faucet or fixture is closed. It operates as a fully pressurized system. This can be very advantageous in many applications as long as your system is tight and there are NO leaks present.

Why is this pump system unable to work on a Sand piont well system??
Jerry
from Minnesota
November 07, 2013
Answer
Thank you for your interest in Water Pumps Direct. The Bur-Cam can handle a sand point well system as long as you also install the Bur-Cam Sand Filter For Jet Pumps, model 750896. Depending on the concentration of sand content, you may need to install two of these filters. Sorry for any confusion.

The description says it i not recommended for "sand point applications"? What does that mean?
Max
from Washington
October 01, 2012
Answer
A Sandpoint Well is a shallow water well source obtained from no more then 25' below the ground. In areas where the ground under the soil is quite sandy and there exists a high water table Sandpoint Wells have in the past, and still can be found in use today, for potable and non-potable uses.

Can the discharge pressure be adjusted to 50 psi?
Dan
from Michigan
April 30, 2012
Answer
The pump does not have any pressure regulating features. The only way to regulate the pressure is by placing a pressure regulator at the input if the incoming pressure is higher then say 30 PSI or at the output if you need to have a pressure lower then 65 PSI.
We recommend the Watts N45B pressure regulator.
