Q: hi jim just a quick follow up on my question.I see in your other answers this pump needs 20 to 25 psi coming in to this pump with my tank under ground I dont see how I could have enough pressure for this pump.Could you please explain this better
by Shane B from Nevada on July 06, 2016

A: If you are using this Bur-Cam model 506532SS Dual App Pump as a booster pump, you need to have between 20 & 25 PSI on the suction side of the pump. IF you are installing it as a shallow well pump, it will handle up to a maximum 25 foot suction lift. This does NOT have to be a well, it could be a lake, pond or cistern. Two applications, two different installation methods.
If you have any other questions, please let me know.
by Jim, Product Expert

Q: was wondering if this can be hooked to city water to increase gpm and pressure, I am on top of a hill in an old small town and was going to try to find something I didn't need a separate tank for.
by Terry from Texas on July 03, 2016

A: This would be a possibility, HOWEVER, you do need to insure that incoming pressure to the pump is between 20 & 25 PSI. No more and no less. You also need to insure that you are not trying to boost pressure to a large 2-3 bath home with high water needs. This pump does well in smaller 1 to 2 bath homes with low to average water needs.
The PUMP MANUAL should provide all the information you need.
If you have any other questions, please let me know.
by Jim, Product Expert

Q: Hi Jim, Looking at the 506532SS pump. What I am doing is taking the RO water from a 100 Gal holding tank and pressurizing the 32 gallon take to the house.
Pressure to be 30-50 PSI. There will be floats to protect the booster pump and the entire system. Is there a less expensive option for my needs? The feed will be at the bottom of the tank, and the pressure tank is within 4 feet.

Thanks
Jim

by Jim Healey from New York on July 02, 2016

A: Thank you for your interest in Water Pumps Direct. Before I can answer your question, I would need to know the following:

Total head (suction & discharge lift)

Total pumping distance from the water source to the pump and from the pump to the furthest sprinkler head

Piping diameter on your suction and discharge (if already laid)

Total GPM & PSI requirements

Once you can provide this information, I'll be happy to assist you further.

Q: Hi Jim I bought the burcam model 506532SS from your company on 02 months ago. I just install direct on my city water pipe and use the pump water for all my house. but the motor always running. Do they support to automatic stop if I don't use the water. Please give me some advice. Thank you
by KIET BUI from Pennsylvania on July 02, 2016

A: As long as you followed all manufacturer's installation INSTRUCTIONS the pump should only be operating on a call for water. If this is NOT the case, I would suggest calling Bur-Cam tech support at 800-361-1820 for further assistance.

by Jim, Product Expert

Q: we are moving to an off grid home with a 2000 gal water tank buried.we need water for a kitchen sink and one full bathroom with one more in future.wondering if this pump will work or if there is more I need also thinking I need some kind of filtration.thanks for any suggestions
by Shane B from Nevada on June 29, 2016

A: IF your pumping distance is minimal from the water tank to your home and water demand is low to average with 1 or 2 max baths, this pump would be a very good option for you. Just make sure that you follow the installation instructions to the "T".
If you have any other questions, please let me know.
by Jim, Product Expert

Q: Hi Jim,

I am following up to my original question to answer your question...

The pump will be placed in line with the storage tank on slab. Almost all the faucets/appliances are on the slab level of the home however there is one bathroom on the second floor so I would estimate our vertical lift on the second floor to be about 18' given that we have 9' ceilings. That said, all remaining faucets and appliances will have a much lower vertical lift.

The piping will be 1/2 inch copper.

Original answer:
Thank you for your interest in Water Pumps Direct. Before I can really make an educated suggestion on what pump you would need for your application, I would need to know the following specifications and requirements:

What is your vertical lift?

What size piping do you have in place?

Original Question:
I have a well system on my property but it is over 1000' away so I am running a line from the well to a 1500 gallon storage tank. I plan to use this pump on the outlet side of the storage tank to boost pressure and supply house. So the water will be coming in with limited pressure and no head. How many faucets/appliances will this product be able to handle being used simultaneously? I saw in one of your other responses you said 2 faucets/appliances and that surprised me because I assumed it would be more.

by Tim from Alabama on June 29, 2016

A: Is that 1/2" copper running the entire 1000 foot distance from the storage tank to your home?
by Jim, Product Expert

Q: Hey Jim, Is it okay to run PEX water lines on the discharge side of the pump??

Thanks,

by Andy B from Virginia on December 15, 2014

A: Since PEX piping has a limited size of inch we do not recommend using it on the suction side of this or any other of our shallow well pumps however it can be used on the discharge side after the 3 to 5 ft of required 1 inch piping for our 506532SS model.
by Jim, Product Expert

Q: Hi Jim
if the kids leave a tap or shower dripping is this pump going to cycle on and off continuously. I beleive your info says no, but I don't understand why it wouldn't

by David T from Michigan on December 12, 2014

A: The Bur-Cam Dual App Pump model 506532SS works without a pressure tank and thus requires a fully pressurized system to operate properly. When the Floumac controller senses an open faucet or fixture the pump turns on. When that faucet or fixture is closed, the pump shuts off. Hence, if the pump senses ANY loss in pressure, the pump will continue to operate. It will not cycle, it will just run continuously until that faucet or fixture is closed completely. The same this will happen if there is any leak within your plumbing.
If you have additional questions, please let me know.
by Jim, Product Expert

Q: I have a modified sine wave inverter delivering electricity to the pump room. Will this affect the operation of pump?
by Gayle M from Colorado on June 15, 2014

A: Per Bur-Cam:
The electricity supplied to the pump need to match the specifications on the pump label.
For example, our motors are under 110V-120V AC 60Hz or under 220-240V AC 60Hz.
If the inverter provides twice the amps required to the pump to operate (the Amp rating is on the pump label) it will work.
The amps capacity needs to be twice the running Amps because at start, the motor pulls normally around twice the Amps for 1 to 2 seconds.
So, if the running Amp rating is 6.5A, you need to cover 13A so a 15A breaker is required or the inverter output needs to be at least 15A.

Q: hi I have 2 bathrooms and we cant run the 2 things at once like shower and dishwasher or shower and washing machine without losing pressure we have a 12 hp shallow well pump and 20 pressure tank will this well pump work better
by Steven from Pennsylvania on February 05, 2014

A: Thank you for your interest in Water Pumps Direct.
You might want to check your tank to see if it is holding pressure as this could one of be the causes of your problem. Another cause could be due to a build up of sediment or mineral deposits in your plumbing. This is pretty common in older homes and would require professional assistance. If you tank tests ok and your plumbing is in good condition, you might consider something like the Red Lion 12 GPM 1/2 HP Cast Iron Shallow Well Jet Pump, model RJS-50 or if you prefer to do away with your tank, the Bur-Cam 506532SS should also do the trick for you.

by Jim, Product Expert

Q: Hi Jim want to replace old house pressure system of tank & pump.. city water no well. will this product work. or what pump/tank system would u recommend.. think city pressure is about 40psi want to boost to 60-65psi.
by William from Florida on January 12, 2014

A: The Bur-Cam 16GPM dual app pump, model 506532SS will only work with incoming pressure of 20-25 PSI, no more and no less. Providing you can meet these requirements and you don't plan on using more than 2 faucets/appliances at a time and your home does not have more than 2 levels this pump will do a very good job for you.
by Jim, Product Expert

Q: I have 3 500gal water tanks supplying 4 houses, and can't get enough pressure. What do I need to boost pressure? By the way, I am actually in the Dominican Republic, not TN, but I had to put a state in.
by Bob Spencer from Tennessee on January 11, 2014

A: Thank you for your interest in Water Pumps Direct. I would need to know your total GPM & PSI requirements and the total pumping distance and any elevation variance. Also, please note that we only ship within the Continental United States.
by Jim, Product Expert

Q: jim
Does this pump cut on when water is truned on and cut off when water is cut off

by Edwin Brannum from Texas on January 11, 2014

A: The Bur-Cam model 506532SS will activate automatically when it senses an open faucet or fixture and will shut off when that faucet or fixture is closed. It operates as a fully pressurized system. This can be very advantageous in many applications as long as your system is tight and there are NO leaks present.
by Jim, Product Expert

Q: Why is this pump system unable to work on a Sand piont well system??
by Jerry from Minnesota on November 07, 2013

A: Thank you for your interest in Water Pumps Direct. The Bur-Cam can handle a sand point well system as long as you also install the Bur-Cam Sand Filter For Jet Pumps, model 750896. Depending on the concentration of sand content, you may need to install two of these filters. Sorry for any confusion.
by Jim, Product Expert

Q: The description says it i not recommended for "sand point applications"? What does that mean?
by Max from Washington on October 01, 2012

A: A Sandpoint Well is a shallow water well source obtained from no more then 25' below the ground. In areas where the ground under the soil is quite sandy and there exists a high water table Sandpoint Wells have in the past, and still can be found in use today, for potable and non-potable uses.
by Jim, Product Expert

Q: Can the discharge pressure be adjusted to 50 psi?

by Dan from Michigan on April 30, 2012

A: The pump does not have any pressure regulating features. The only way to regulate the pressure is by placing a pressure regulator at the input if the incoming pressure is higher then say 30 PSI or at the output if you need to have a pressure lower then 65 PSI.

We recommend the Watts N45B pressure regulator.

This pumps wins our top spot because it is a dual action pump. One application is the water supply pressure booster pump. This increases and maintains municipal home water pressure. The Booster Pump will give constant pressure delivering between 60 to 65PSI of pressure, and will increase the city water pressure by what pressure is presently in the system.

For example: if the city water pressure is 20 psi plus the 60 to 65PSI that the pump will deliver, the pump will give a total more... more

Easy To Install - Small And Powerful
I replaced a bulky pump and pressure tank unit with this sleek, light-weight and easy to handle tankless pump. Installation was a snap and I was easily able to position the pump so virtually all my existing pipes and fittings could be reused. It's quiet, simple and delivers plenty of pressure for our small mountain cabin at 7000 feet.

Losing Pressure After 2 Months
It's now been two months of having this pump and I would not recommend it to anyone. I struggled with not getting it to leak for the first two weeks on the inlet and outlet holes. Now I've had it for two months and it's intermittently losing pressure on the output side and runs constantly. Like others, phone calls to the WPD number goes unanswered.

Works Great!
The pump, itself, was relatively easy to install. However, due to the short crawlspace, I had to dig out the ground to bring the pump low enough for the output pipe to be able to fit on. (See attached picture) As can be seen in the second attached picture, I removed the one inch adapter to reduce the height and attached a Blue Hawk 1" Threaded-1" Slip Adapter to which I connected a 1" PEX tube that I heated and bent to eliminate any tight ninety degree turns, and to provide a... more

Pump Leaking Out Of The Box...
I purchased this product in '14 but because of having open heart surgery did not get a chance to install until this month...after install it looks like I have leaks from the unions between pump and control unit...I like the pressure and capabilities but am not sure how these pumps make it out of the factory without testing for these types of things.

Great Pump For It's Class
This is now the third Bur-Cam 16 GPH 3/4 hp pump. The first lasted about 3 years of heavy use. I use it to irrigate my garden and fill my pool from my well. The on demand pump is great, and simple to install. No need for a pressure switch like well pumps. For the price, and the functionality, this pump is truly second to none.

Great Pressure, But Inlet Is Notorious For Leaking
The pump is being used as a booster pump to push water to multiple hydrants 400' away with a lift of 10'. Pressure is excellent. The only issue I had is the same as I've seen in many other reviews for the Bur-Cam products and that is the intake threads leak no matter how well you wrap it with thread sealant.

I started with Teflon tape, and it leaked. Note: Inlet pressure is 20PSI, per manufacturer requirements. Next I swapped the Teflon tape for Megaloc thread sealant with Kevlar, and... more

Somewhat Disappointing To Say The Least
This pump decided to die. It just wasn't up to the task. it served as a booster for a gravity fed spring. it was replaced with a hf 1 hp.

Great idea, just a finicky piece of equipment. it just won't do if there is any kind of drop in pressure. it will cook at the most minimal of challenges.

Well Controller Is Not Good
I have had pumps and pressure tanks for 25 years. The pump installed and primed ok. The pumps pressure goes to 70 psi with no control or adjustment (per their tech guy). I need to buy a pressure reducer and parts ($100 +). It killed my other inline pump with the high pressure. None of this is in their Documentation (which was small). Their big controller takes a lot of space and does little. The stainless part is the only good part but time will tell. The pump goes to 60 psi in 4 minutes and... more

Lee,
After reviewing your application, it seems that this pump in not ideal for your current set-up. i would not suggest using the pump when there is an additional pump in the discharge line.
