Can you reduce the suction line down from 1 1/4" to 3/4", as my suction line in the cistern is 3/4" copper?

Answer
It is never recommended that you reduce your suction piping from that of the port diameter. Doing so will starve the pump and cause cavitation to the impeller and pump failure, which would NOT be a warrantied failure.

What is the maximum depth of a "shallow" well pump? I want to use an on top pump if possible and my well is 150 ft. deep

Answer
Thank you for visiting Water Pumps Direct. In answer to your question, the maximum suction or depth that a shallow well pump can handle is 25 feet. A CONVERTIBLE JET PUMP can handle depths of up to 90 feet, max. In your case, the only option would be a DEEP WELL submersible pump, providing that you can get a 4" diameter pump into your well.
