Answer
Yes, it does. This should actually be a pretty standard feature that should come with any submersible deep well pump.

I have read that this pump utilizes a Franklin motor, is this true?
Ken K.
from Texas
May 10, 2017
Answer
Red Lion, while a division of Franklin Electric, does NOT use a Franklin motor on their deep well pumps. The Red Lion Deep Well Pumps include a VHC motor which is also a division of Franklin Electric. Little Giant Deep Well Pumps, on the other hand, are also a division of Franklin Electric and DO include the Franklin motor.

I'm replacing an old ('86) Red Jacket 3/4hp Submersible pump. It's a 2-wire 230v pump, but it was installed with a control box and worked for a long time. The replacement, to avoid a full rewire, is a 2-wire 1hp RL12G10-2W2V. I know that these systems have internal starting caps, so I have 2 questions.
1) Is there any benefit to having a control box with a 2 wire system?
2) [if so] Can I reuse the same control box that is marked for 3/4hp Franklin pump?

Answer
Thank you for your interest in Water Pumps Direct. The ONLY difference between a 2-wire and 3-wire pump is that the 3-wire pump requires the control box, which houses the pump relay, overload and capacitor. The 2-wire pumps include all starting components inside the pump. Thus, if you are installing a 2-wire pump, there is no need for the control box and you should NOT include it in any portion of your installation.
If one was to use a control box that was already installed, you only need to insure that the horsepower (HP) rating of the pump and control box match.

I plan to replace a 30 yer old pump that is at 200 ft. and lower the new pump to 250 ft in a 400 ft deep well. Will I need to a check valve mid way up as well as at the well head?
Ken G
from California
July 27, 2015
Answer
Most submersible deep well pumps include a built-in check valve at the discharge port of the pump and It is recommended that additional spring loaded in-line check valves be installed in the drop pipe @ 200ft intervals only.

what parts are involved with submersible pumps that can fail and breakdown or if it doesn't work you just have to replace the entire pump?
Sal
from New York
January 22, 2014
Answer
When it comes to 2-wire deep well submersible pumps, the pump starting controls are located inside the pump. Any of these components can fail and cause the pump to become inoperable. By installing a 3-wire pump, those components would be located inside a CONTROL BOX, making repairs much easier when failure of these components are the cause of your pump not operating. Of course if the pump has failed due to burnt motor windings or some other cause, would would still need to pull and replace the pump, but you would have a better understanding of the pump status when the pump starting components are above ground as opposed to 50-500 feet or more, below ground.

Does this pump have a grounding wire beside the two hot wires?
Dan S
from New York
August 17, 2013
Answer
Thank you for your interest in Water Pumps Direct. The Red Lion model RL12G07-2W2V, like any other 2-Wire deep well pump, would have two line voltage wires and one ground wire so you would have three wires total.

I need to replace my deep submersible pump and I would like to get your recommendation on what size I should get. The one that is in there now is a myers 3/4 hp 2 wire pump. I think it is a 10 GPM. I have had it for almost 9 years but with an irrigation installed now which the pump supplies both house and irrigation. My irrigation has 8 zones with 3 heads on each zone which usually runs 20 minutes on each zone with a break of an hour between zones 1 2 3 4 5 and then 6 7 8. The well is 240 feet down but I'm not sure if that's where the pump is or where the head static level is. I would like to increase the HP to a 1hp and GPM to 20. Would this work better than the one I have???

Answer
Thank you for visiting Water Pumps Direct. Before I could make any recommendation, I would need to know the following:
What is the depth of the well and at what depth is the pump set?
How much distance and vertical rise between the well head and the house and furthest sprinkler head?
What is the GPM and PSI rating for each head in each zone and how many heads would be operating at once?
By simply increasing your HP, you might solve your problem, but if you can answer the questions I have posed to you, I could make sure that you ARE solving your problem.
