I have read that this pump utilizes a Franklin motor, is this true?
Ken K.
from Texas
May 10, 2017
Answer
Red Lion, while a division of Franklin Electric, does NOT use a Franklin motor on their deep well pumps. The Red Lion Deep Well Pumps include a VHC motor which is also a division of Franklin Electric. Little Giant Deep Well Pumps, on the other hand, are also a division of Franklin Electric and DO include the Franklin motor.

Question

can I used this pump with 220 volt power instead of 230 volt? Is the 3rd wire a ground wire?
Moises
from California
September 28, 2014
Answer
Yes, the Red Lion RL12G05-2W2V can be wired to 220 or 230 volts. The 2-wire pumps do include a ground wire so it is technically a 3 wire pump. "3-wire" deep well pumps are technically a 4 wire pump, including the ground.

Question

what parts are involved with submersible pumps that can fail and breakdown or if it doesn't work you just have to replace the entire pump?
Sal
from New York
January 22, 2014
Answer
When it comes to 2-wire deep well submersible pumps, the pump starting controls are located inside the pump. Any of these components can fail and cause the pump to become inoperable. By installing a 3-wire pump, those components would be located inside a CONTROL BOX, making repairs much easier when failure of these components are the cause of your pump not operating. Of course if the pump has failed due to burnt motor windings or some other cause, would would still need to pull and replace the pump, but you would have a better understanding of the pump status when the pump starting components are above ground as opposed to 50-500 feet or more, below ground.
