Q: How long will it run on a tank of gas?
by Brent from Alabama on November 08, 2016

A: That's a hard question to answer Brent and there really isn't a way to gauge it. Run times are based on how easy or how hard the engine is running. If you're pumping a short distance with minimal head lift, you may see about 2 to 3 hours of run time, but if you're pumping very long distances and requiring a lot of lift, that may dwindle to 60 - 90 minutes of run time. You might equate it to how you drive your car? If you accelerate fast and brake the same and often, your gas mileage suffers. It's the same with any gas powered piece of equipment. The harder you work it, the less run time you will realize.
If you have any other questions, please let me know.

Q: Does this pump throttle down any?
by Brad A from Colorado on March 17, 2016

A: Most gas power pumps, including the Honda WB20, will have a throttle control however, we and the manufacturers do NOT recommend controlling your water flow by the throttle. Instead, it is better on the pump and engine if you install a ball valve on the discharge side and use this for your flow control. As long as you are not reducing your flow more than 90%-100%, you will not cause and harm or damage.
If you have any other questions, please let me know.
by Jim, Product Expert
Q: Hi Jim Is it okay to have the input 2 inch in and reduce the output to a 1 1/2? that would probably increase the PSI a little bit more too, right? or do I have to match both input and output with the same size hose? Thank you.
by Marc D from Minnesota on January 22, 2014

A: It is always recommended that you use the same diameter hose/piping as the suction and discharge ports on the pump. While it is sometimes necessary to reduce that diameter, it is NOT recommended that you do so by more than one size. In this case, 1-1/2" hose or piping would be the maximum reduction, While you may see an increased pressure due to the reduced piping, the pump will also see an increased backpressure on the pump. The more you reduce the hose/piping diameter, the more you increase this backpressure AND increase premature pump failure that would NOT be covered under warranty.

Don't Believe Specs
This pump is not as advertised. It could not even pump up 5 feet from the pond to the pump and the outlet was even with the pump.
Cons: Low Quality, Unreliable

Manufacturer Response
Brand Rep
Gregg,
Reads like Jim has done what I'd recommend, get a servicing Honda pump dealer to examine and evaluate the pump and find the actual problem. This pump will easily pump 5 feet if properly running and configured with the correct fittings, prime chamber filled, etc. If, for whatever reason, you continue to have problems after a Honda dealer has had a look, don't hesistate to give Honda Customer Relations a call: 770-497-6400. -Robert@Honda

Beast!
Starts perfect. I am pulling water, using a 50' section of hose, from the river to the top of the bank. The vertical rise is about 12-13'. The first time I used it, it took about 30-45 sec to prime, but since then, I keep the suction hose primed (foot valve), and it starts pumping immediately now. I am discharging with about a 10' total vertical rise from pump output to discharge point at 200'. All 2" (suction/discharge).

The unit will knock you over at full throttle holding onto... more

Awesome Pump
This is an awesome pump. This is my third pump and first Honda pump. The other two pumps, I had to pull on the starter rope until my arm was going to fall off. This pump takes about a half pull. It costs more money but worth not being frustrated to start it. I have a fish farm and moving water is important.
Pros: Easy To Use, I'd Buy It Again, High Quality, Exceeded Expectations

First Honda Pump - Seems Great
I am a first time Honda Pump owner. I use this pump to pump out graves at a cemetery after the vault has been set and casket lowered, but prior to back filling the hole(we have a very high water table and I use a pump about 40-50% of the time). I needed something that would be nearly perfectly reliable since I may need this in an emergency situation, therefore I purchased a Honda though many other pumps had similar specs at 1/3 or 1/2 the cost.

I have not been disappointed. The Honda... more
