Subaru PKV101 - 28 GPM (1") Water Pump

Very nice pump. I bought it to replace an old Homelite 2 stroke that lasted well past my expectations. The throttleability is excellent and this pump appears to outperform (pressure and flow) the electric jet pump for my house. This pump appears to be well designed and manufactured and I expect it to last a long time.

I have used this pump a few times so far and have changed the break-in oil. The oil capacity is quite small and it is probably a good idea to change it frequently, it is easy to do. Being a 4 stroke it is much nicer to run than the old Homelite, quiet, clean burning, and smooth torque curve.

With the hoses hooked up and the pump primed once with water (quite easy too the way it is designed), the pump easily drew water up about 6' after a short time on the lowest throttle setting - I will not know how well it will draw from a lower point until later in the season, but I suspect it will be fine. It was a bit tricky to start, finding the right choke setting, with a primed system and the engine warm.

Cold starts and hot starts are easy. The fuel tank capacity is perfect for my needs, quite similar to the old pump in volume of water pumped, it draws my auxiliary well down about 3' on a tank full and is time for me check the level, andor move a sprinkler or whatever.

The pump came with a nice packet of fittings, 2- 1" gaskets, a strainer, hose clamps... so I didn't have to rob the 1" to three quarter inch garden hose adapter off the old pump.

Water Pumps Direct had the best price including shipping that I could find, and they were good to deal with. My only suggestion is to change their online ordering to not require yet another password protected account just to buy something. I called in my order after running into that. Delivery was fine.

I purchased my Subaru pump primarily to water my 2 acre garden from a creek.

It definitely had the best warranty and I figured that IF it did even most of what they advertisement said it would do, I'd be satisfied.

It's an unbelievable little pump! I purchased 25' of 1.5" suction line and started out with one 100' X 34" garden hose on the head. I am now running 150' of 34" HD garden hose with a splitter and added two additional 50' soaker hoses or two sprinkler heads.

It runs all of that on it's lowest throttle setting and will run 45-50 minutes per tank of fuel.

This pump is quite the value!......quiet and fuel efficient as well!

Oh, and just out of the box after filling the crank case with oil and the pump primer with water it started on the 3rd pull and has never failed to start in two pulls max since. And it has never* required re-priming due to the one way prime check valve.
