Q: Hi Jim,
I want to top off my water garden pond from an outside well that has not been used in quite some time. I am not sure of the depth of the well at this time. I am just wondering if this is the proper pump for this application. Thank you.

by Richard from Pennsylvania on July 02, 2016

A: Unfortunately, we would need to know the depth from the top of the well to the water level and the pump down level, before we could make any pump suggestions. IF you can confirm however that the water level in that NEVER gets below 25 feet, this pump might do the job for you.
If you have any other questions, please let me know.

Q: Hi Jim,

Here is my current problem. At my camp we have a giant slip and slide on one of our hills. Currently I have 3000 gallons of storage on the top of the hill powered by a 7 hp gas pump. This is used up in approximately 40 minutes of continuous use. For refilling I have two methods. 1) Truck in water. 2) Fill water with standard 3/4 inch garden hose from the nearest spigot. It is approximately 160 feet away from the spigot with a 50 foot rise in elevation. Currently this method takes approximately 9 hrs/1000 gallons. Do you have a transfer pump which would be appropriate for this?

My ideal situation would be if I could get 1000/hr which would enable our slip and slide to be used by two different groups in the afternoon (3000 over 3 hours). Though I am concerned about 1) If such a pump would put too much pressure on our pipes. 2) If this is even a reasonable water use request for such a small spigot.

Thank you.

by Justin Hylden from North Dakota on June 30, 2016

A: Unfortunately, you are limited to a maximum 10GPM through a 3/4" hose or PVC, so in order to increase that flow, you would need to find a way to increase your delivery method and your hose diameter running to your storage tank. This could be accomplished by increasing the size of the spigot and hose/PVC to a 1-1/4" or even 1-1/2" IF the source can handle that. This could potentially increase your flow rates to a max 26 - 36 GPM, respectively. You could try simply increasing the hose/pvc diameter to 1-1/2" with adapters and use the RJSE-75SS - 17 GPM 3/4 HP Stainless Steel Portable Sprinkler / Transfer Pump . This may get you in that 1000 GPH range.
If you have any other questions, please let me know.

Q: I'd like to find a pump to pull water from the lake to wash my boat and deck in the boathouse. Is this pump well suited for that, or is another choice better?

And what accessories would I need? I want to connect to a standard garden hose. Thanks.

by Keith from Virginia on April 27, 2016

A: Based on your description, this Simer 2825SS pump should serve your needs. Just make sure that you are not exceeding the rated head on the pump and you are NOT closing off the discharge at any time while the pump is operating. I would recommend running a 1" PVC pipe into the lake with a foot valve and you can connect your 3/4" garden hose directly off the pump if you like.
If you have any other questions, please let me know.

Q: Is this pump suitable for transferring drinking water? If not, which of your electric transfer pumps are suitable for potable water? Thank you.
by Tim S from California on January 08, 2014

A: Thank you for your interest in Water Pumps Direct. The Simer 2825SS is rated for potable water. If used with a well for potable water, always disinfect the well and test the water for purity before using.
Check with your local health department for testing procedures.

Water Pumps Direct Recommended

This transfer pump comes with a handle on it, so even though it is a little heavier than the "better" recommendation it is still very portable with the added handle.

This pump also has a strong and corrosion-resistant stainless steel construction. The pump provides enough volume and pressure to run a couple average lawn sprinklers. It is also recommended for all of the dewatering applications we mentioned in our "better" recommendation: emptying flooded basements,... more

Works Great
My application - 100 gallon water tank in the back of my truck to wash my airplane. I connected a garden hose with a nozzle up to it. (nozzle is open at all times)

Provides perfect amount of flow and pressure. Quieter than I expected.

Simer Pump Works Great!
I am pumping water 175' from the lake to a 25 gallon holding tank. The vertical lift is 11'. My Simer 2825ss pump works great, fills the water tank in 10 minutes.
Pros: I'd Buy It Again, Durable, Fast, Easy To Store

Great Pump But Not Perfect
Bottom line... I am pleased with this pump. I use it to transfer water and nutrients to/from a hydroponic garden.

There are two complaints that I have:

1) There is no on/off switch! You must unplug it from the source to turn it off. Of course I will change that soon but in the meantime, it is a hassle.

2) The hose adapters that come with the pump are crappy, plastic junk. I consider myself to be quite handy around the house and yet I managed to strip the threads on both adapters! ... more
Pros: Durable, High Quality
Cons: Heavy, No Onoff Switch, Cheap Plastic Hose Adapters

Good Small Scale Sprinkler Pump
I have two 275 gallon IBC poly tanks in tandem that I fill with a small sump pump from a small stream nearby for the purpose of watering the lawn and garden. I use the Simer 2825SS to drive two Rainbird sprinklers simultaneously from the storage tanks. This pump supplies adequate pressure and volume to drive both sprinklers. The only problem I had was when I first unpacked the pump the end vent cap was bent in, pressing against the fan on the end of the motor shaft and preventing it from... more

Pump Works Just Fine And At A Relatively Low Level Of Noise
I use this pump to circulate fertilizer solution in a hydroponic system in a classroom. It does great, provides enough PSI to distribute the fertilizer and operates quiet enough for the students to learn.

Good Choice For Us
We needed to transfer drinking water at 10 gallon per minute. We were surprised this pump was 1 hp but see that this is a well designed, durable unit much better suited to our needs than the smaller pumps we considered.

Finally A Pump That Performs..
I had two pumps before this one, they cost a lot less and performed very poorly. So I guest the old saying is true in this case, you must invest in a better product to get performance. The old pumps cost about about $40.00, compared to $210.00, this one cost. But this pump really pumps a lot more water. I think as much pressure as out of a city hook up and a whole lot cheaper. I am pumping up 12 feet and a 150 foot hose from the lake. All the pressure one would ever need and a hole lot cheaper... more

Transfer Pump?
I am in north Texas engulfed in the stage 5 drought catastrophe trying to save plants and turf. I am hauling 300 gal. across town gravity watering things until I decided to order this transfer pump to speed the process up. Received the pump early week and was impressed the hose adapters were included. Tefloned the pieces and assembled. Wednesday I made a water run to fill the 300 gal. tank during lunch. Today (Friday) I anxiously connected hoses to begin watering things, plugged in the pump and... more

Simmer Transfer Pump
I am using the pump for watering plants in the yard up to 75 + feet away from my rain water barrels.. Works great. Suction is so good it is collapsing my old garden hoses. I need to either buy a stronger walled hose or use PVC pipe for the suction out of the rain barrels. My dad had an old Simmer paddle pump he used on the farm and gave to me for pumping water. It had to have grease put into cups on each end of the shaft and continued to work great until I sold before we moved to... more
